Israeli Street Art

The White City, Tel Aviv, is a bustling metropolis on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Just like any city, it isn’t immune to turning into a concrete jungle with cables replacing vines and ivy, and glass and metal replacing flora and fauna.

The municipality has gone to great efforts in order to beautify the city by creating parks and gardens throughout the maze, and hustle and bustle of streets. For the sharp-eyed pedestrian, the colors in between stand out… Scattered about the city are colorful murals strategically placed, creating a dialog between people and their surroundings, all the while breathing life back into an otherwise unremarkable space.

From the early 90’s to present day, these lively murals have been popping up everywhere thanks to Israel’s finest street artist, Rami Meiri. Look around the city and neighboring towns and you’ll see for yourself! Rami has traveled far and wide to gather inspiration and has even been asked to paint murals in other cities around the world.

Some of Awesome Israel’s participants had the chance to meet Rami in the flesh and toured his studio located just footsteps from the beach. They learned that by taking a void and adding light colors and shadows in a certain way, gives the impression of depth. This results in stunning murals that “pop.”
